I’m Sofia Gonzalez (she/they) and I am a human before I am anything else. Genuine and vulnerable connection to me, is one of the most driving forces in my life. Witnessing the humanity and complexities of those around me is something I value deeply and as a therapist, I want more than anything to provide connection, belonging, and a space for someone to feel welcomed, heard, and supported. I have had a variety of experiences working with complex trauma, addiction treatment, domestic abuse, identity struggles and many other concerns. I work with a wide range of populations from children to older adults.
I love pulling from different theories and therapy modalities. I often integrate an understanding of the nervous system and highlight the mind-body connection in my work with clients and especially when working with trauma.
Counseling to me is, at its core, a collaborative journey toward meaning, healing, and growth. My own approach to therapy draws upon the existential tradition of emphasizing authenticity and responsibility, narrative therapy’s conviction that people live through the stories they tell, and internal family systems’ recognition of the multiplicity of parts within every individual.
